It is our pleasure to tell you how great the harbour is, and about activities, attractions, accommodation and upcoming events. The most popular activities are walking, boat trips, the Timeball, and of course our cafes & restaurants. Lyttelton is famous for night entertainment too, with several theatres and quirky bars.

Lytteltonians come on in. The info-centre is well stocked with community newspapers, a notice board and staffed by locals too. You can pop in to catch up or view an exhibition by a local crafts person/people. We also provide internet, fax and photocopying services as well as a meeting room.

Welcome

Our friendly centre welcomes all visitors and locals.

The Lyttelton Harbour Information Centre is open every day except Anzac Day and Christmas Day.

Hours are  9am to 5pm except for the winter months of June, July and August when we open from 10am to 4pm.

Lyttelton may be just 12 km from Christchurch, but nestled on an ancient volcano crater rim, overlooking a commercial port and a scenic harbour, it can seem a world apart.

Container ships, fishing vessels and gigantic summer cruise ships provide the foreground; the harbour and hills that are criss-crossed with walking tracks make up the backdrop. Add to this mix a strong sense of community and it’s easy to see why a diverse range of artists, families and businesspeople have chosen to live here.

Signs of Lyttelton’s rich heritage are evident around the township (which is officially designated an Historic Area), from the arrival of the fledgling Canterbury Association in 1850, for example, and the departure of Antarctic-bound explorers.

Today Lyttelton is a vibrant town with her feet firmly on the ground. Recent features in glossy magazines are gaining further attention for the town’s cafés and restaurants, Farmers Market, entertainment venues and bars, attracting visitors from all over the world.
