cera_avondale_centre The Avondale Earthquake Assistance Centre reached a milestone last week with the 1000th visitor walking through the door. The service continues to provide support and information to people who are making decisions around their land offers and we congratulate the team for the support they’re providing to residents.

red_zone_mapLast week we had ten Red Zone residents accept the crown offer and settle their properties. With another 34 scheduled this week and a further 329 settlements within the next four weeks, people are starting to move forward. While that is positive for those residents, it is important people take their time when making their decisions and get the advice they need.

cera_recovery_strategyPublic consultation on the draft Recovery Strategy for the greater Christchurch area has started, and will run until Sunday 30 October. The draft Recovery Strategy offers a proposed road map for recovery from the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, including direction for major activities required to make the recovery effective, timely and well co-ordinated.

The first residential red zone crown offer has been settled for a recently retired couple who were living in Dallington. For them, it means they’re now able to buy a property in Redwood that they had been renting. A second property has also been settled and a further eight are expected this week.

I’m very aware that, while many people now have certainty about the status of their land, for others still in the orange and white zones it has been a frustrating time while they wait to hear the final zoning decisions.
